Apple is experimenting with larger screens for future iterations of its smartphones iPhone, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
The business Bible says that Apple is working with test devices ranging from 4.8 to 6-inches in size, much larger than the current screen 4-inch residing on iPhone 5.
The 5S iPhone is likely to keep that from 4-inch Retina Display, but future iterations of the device might upsize magazine claiming that Apple is more willing to move from its traditional strategy in recent years.
The newspaper's sources claim that Apple is particularly interested in recent trials for a 4.8-inch display, which could emerge as a potential screen sizes for iPhone 6 by 2014. This device is likely to bring further changes to this year's expected incremental update.
According to the report, Apple is exploring potential areas of growth to compete with Samsung, which continues to offer all sorts of devices in all manner of sizes suitable for a wide range of audiences.
An iPhone in a choice of display formats would give potential buyers more choice in the face of endless options to Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy smartphone Notes.
Apple is expected to launch two new smartphones on 10 September, an iPhone and an iPhone 5 5 c, none of which is expected to offer a screen size larger than 4 inches.
