Apple is experimenting with enhanced quantum dot iPhone displays according to a new patent.

According to a patent entitled “quantum dot-enhanced display having dichroic filter” filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Apple is experimenting with next-generation screen technology.

The quatum dot-enhanced displays would be capable of reproducing highly accurate and vivid colours.

Made from various semiconductor materials that exhibit special quantum mechanical qualities, the quantum dots are technically nanocrystals that can be tuned to emit very narrow light spectrums.

Nanocrystals’ wavelength and size are inversely related so the larger the quantum dot, the smaller the emission frequency.

When this is applied to colours, the bigger dots tend to generate longer wavelengths like red, but the smaller dots produce shorter, higher frequencies that create colours like violet.

This means the nanocrystals can be tuned to gradually reproduce the entire colour spectrum by varying in size. Current organic based LEDs emit light in a fixed spectrum so are more restricted.

Quantum dot technology could be used in future iPhone models to improve the Retina displays currently used in Apple latest products.

The technology would boost the colour reproduction while brightness would be boosted used prisms and other lighting techniques to create some of the most beautiful screens.

Apple even outlines the semiconductor materials it could use to fabricate quantum dots in a non-toxic manner for consumers.

This patent was originally filed in 2012, so it’s unsure when and if Apple will ever implement the quantum dot technology in its products.

The iPhone 5S, iPad mini 2, iPad Air and the iPhone 5C all use Apple’s Retina displays at present for a image density of 326ppi.

iPhone 5S Stock shortage: S4 rival already exhausted at the Apple stores

With today's iPhone 5S release date having been plagued by low inventory, the iPhone 5 follow-on has already sold out at the Apple Store. Further impeding arrival UK mobile phone, a number of networks and third-party vendors are not able to offer stock in the store.

"Due to the popularity of the iPhone 5, we sold today," a sign erected in the Apple store said. Although iPhone 5S picture shortcomings have seen the phone to sell out, the iPhone 5 is still available in a range of colours and storage capacity.

Despite having confirmed that the iPhone 5 would launch today, it seems that the company had kept as a few Apple phones would sell. Reported shortages could make Apple iPhone 5S 'grotesquely unavailable'

Apple fans may have to get in line even earlier than usual, if they wish to snap up an iPhone 5S on Friday, with reports multiple reports predicting major shortages.

One US-based mobile network told AllThingsD it will "have grotesquely unavailable inventory" for the September 20 release date, putting widespread day-one availability in serious doubt.

Another carrier said shipments from Apple were "extremely disappointing," while reports from BGR on Tuesday also wanted of "severely constrained" supplies of the iPhone 5S. In its article that site also claimed Apple was plotting the release of iOS 7.1 in October to coincide with the launch of new iPads.

Reports over the weekend had suggested the expected limited availability of the iPhone 5S could be down to low production yields of the brand new Touch ID fingerprint sensor, which will allow buyers to unlock the device and make purchases by touching the new Home button.

If the 5S really is facing chronic supply shortages at retail stores and online, a potentially redeeming factor is the release of the lower-end iPhone 5C on the same day.

IPhone 5 Apple may be in short supply, analyst argues

The mad rush to catch the annual new iPhone may be a bit madder than this year, with one analyst saying that there are not an abundance of iPhone 5S phones to go around September 20.

In a note to investors on Friday, Jefferies analyst Peter Misek claims "terrible" production yields Touch new ID fingerprint sensor led to a chronic shortage of new phones.

Munster estimates that the company will have only between 5 and 10 million phones ready to go for the remained of this quarter, when Apple's most loyal devotees should withdraw device.

The alleged deficiency may explain why Apple doesn't offer pre-orders for the device and does not start the sales until the actual release date.

May want to ensure as many phones as you can get in the hands of those lined up at its stores next Friday. If Misek is correct, it seems that a limited number of phones will be available online before those pesky delivery estimates begin to rise.

Of course, this year, there are two new phones going on sale, it can split the pack of iPhone buyers and ensure supplies are not iPhone 5S too quickly extinguished the iPhone c open for pre-orders today, before the release of next week. Apple iPhone 2013 event: what to expect and predictions

OpinionHave you heard? There is an Apple event coming. So, what can you expect from reveal annual Apple iPhone this year? Anything we know for sure, but losses are abundant enough to make some reasonable forecasts.

While we wait, I've compiled some thoughts on what to what to expect. So these are my predictions for Apple iPhone event 2013. Agree or disagree? Head to the comments for a discussion (kind).

Rumours of a ' cheap iPhone ' have made the rounds for months, but yours or my idea of ' cheap ' is not the same as Apple. There is no need for an iPhone unique and eye-catching, cheaper? Surely. Is long overdue and iPhone 5 rumors are strong enough that it is now a near-certainty. But this means that you'll be able to pick up a brand new iPhone for £ 200? Not on your nelly.

It's smart for Apple to court consumers more frugal mentality, but not sacrificing quality or a healthy profit margin. More likely, the iPhone 5 c (if that's what it will be called) will sit somewhere between the current iPhone 4S (from £ 449 SIM-free) and the iPhone 4 (by £319 SIM-free).

Imagine the current iPhone 5 innards in a cheaper to build the design, perhaps using the camera by 4S rather than that present in the iPhone 5. We think that most have a decent idea of how will this iPhone ' cheap '. Slap a price tag SIM-free £ 350 to £ 400 on it (around 25% cheaper than the current iPhone 5) and Apple has a good chance to sweep a large slice of the market ' mid-range '.

Whatever Apple chooses to do, it is most likely to launch a new phone at current price 4S compared to a seriously cheap.

For this reason alone I am sure will not be displayed. Also, consider the Samsung and Sony are decidedly mediocre efforts so far, Apple has no need to rush to show his hand.

Two iPhone, iOS 7 and a bunch of other things (that you'll take a moment) is enough for an event, then new iPads will probably wait until October. Why? When OS X Mavericks is due, which makes it a good time to combine some new Mac ads with the latest news on your iPad.

One of the most persistent rumors is that the iPhone 5 includes an integrated fingerprint reader in the home key, and I think he will play in a great theme of wooing more deliberately enterprise customers.

This was speculated after some leaked screenshots of the App Store, and it's a rumor that I'm happy to hang my hat, because:

a) would this be consistent: iLife, at least, is already free on Mac (et al. iPhoto is included on any new Mac). iWork (pages etc.) is not, but maybe Apple will also change? IWork apps on Mac OS are long in the tooth.

b) supports Apple's ecosystem: there are now beta web app versions of iWork on iCloud.com and what better way to support them and do the iCloud, iOS app free?

Profits from apps are likely to be modest, thus making them free will not hurt the bottom line of Apple a lot but will strengthen Apple's ecosystem and ' lock-in ' effect. It makes perfect sense.

A lot of column inches was wasted on the idea of an actual Apple TV: a screen and everything. This will not happen. The margins on televisions are too thin and too little of the benefits.

What Apple will do, however, is give the Apple TV, a serious software update and maybe a hardware one along the way. In addition, the updates will focus on content: TV and games. Through partnerships and TV applications, such as Sky News one that appeared recently, and games via AirPlay with iPhone and iPad and the lot said that iOS game game controller.

Apple patent reveals fingerprint scanner with advanced NFC for iPhone 5S

The iPhone 5 will not include only one fingerprint scanner but NFC technology inside the home button.

According to a patent Apple recently paved, the home button of the iPhone 5 will be the next featured feature Apple flagship.

The patent, discovered by PatentlyApple says that the next iPhone will feature a fingerprint scanner inside the home key, format using a 2D array of electrodues to capture fingerprints.

If the patent is correct, the home button of the iPhone 5 will have a metal ring around it, which will help to differentiate it from the iPhone 5, but will also contain the electrodes to scan fingerprints.

Last week, an image of the button 5S iPhone leaked that points to an inclusion of fingerprint reader, and had the same outer metal ring mentioned in the patent. The report said that "flex cable sensors withstand a significantly different design than the iPhone home button 5."

Previous reports supports the voices of a fingerprint scanner as well. Earlier this month, it has been suggested that the iPhone 5 will feature a home button convex tempered with fingerprint scanner, made from Sapphire Crystal. The material is beaten only in Diamond's hardness scale, and is already used in iPhone 5 camera back then would be a sensible choice and material for the iPhone 5 seconds.

However, the most recent patent claims that fingerprint scanner will be accompanied by the advance NFC technology. The button would have a double function of fingerprint scanning and NFC connectivity through a combination of optical structures and the electrodes.

The home key to improved fingerprint scanner/NFC may also be used in docking system outlined by another part of the patent, which pairs using NFC when the iPhone 5S is splined inside of it.

The 5S iPhone should launch the Apple event tomorrow, 10 September, which starts at 18 UK time.

Added Apple iPhone 5 C carrier list China Mobile.

According to the latest report from Wall Street Journal China Mobile has already signed or will be very soon a deal with Apple for the low-cost iPhone 5 C. Apple, Foxconn, the list of supported carriers for the iPhone 5 C. China has asked mobile added.

Apple iPhone with 6-inch screens, the report argues

Apple is experimenting with larger screens for future iterations of its smartphones iPhone, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

An iPhone in a choice of display formats would give potential buyers more choice in the face of endless options to Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy smartphone Notes.

Apple is expected to launch two new smartphones on 10 September, an iPhone and an iPhone 5 5 c, none of which is expected to offer a screen size larger than 4 inches.

While the Android platform has dominated the smartphone scene for sometime, the iPhone has remained the single best selling phone, although accessory maker Case-Mate has claimed that consumer interest is now moving towards the South Korean manufacturer.

“Sales of the S4 have been incredible,” Gareth Limpenny, Managing Director of Frequency Telecom, Case-Mate’s UK distributor said while speaking with TrustedReviews.

He added: “Since the release of the S4, there has been a shift from interest in Apple to Samsung devices, which will be really interesting to follow in the coming months.”

Limpenny went on to state: “With the growth of Android devices, the smartphone market is not as dominated by Apple as it used to be.

“With new Apple and Android devices being launched frequently, it is interesting to see how the two compare. Looking back to 2011, when we were dealing with the iPhone 4 and Galaxy S2, there was definitely more of a focus on Apple. However in more recent months, following the release of the Galaxy S4, there has been a slight shift towards Android, which will be interesting to continue analysing.”

While Apple has been somewhat slow and incremental in its evolution of the iPhone, the Samsung Galaxy S4 plays host to an array of cutting edge innards which include a 1.9GHz quad-core processor, 13-megapixel rear-mounted camera and a 5-inch 1080p Full HD display.

Despite the Samsung Galaxy S4 having been widely criticised for its plastic form factor, a step down from the brushed metal bodies of its biggest rivals the iPhone 5 and HTC One, Limpenny has suggested that it is this 1080p screen and not the phone’s fragile form that has been the main driving force in S4 owners buying protective cases.

“Personally, we think it’s more to do with the device’s large screen,” the Case-Mate representative told us. “It’s great for viewing media on, but a feature that many consumers are conscious of damaging. The Samsung Galaxy S4 is an expensive and important device, therefore it’s no surprise that users want to protect it.
