Nokia Lumia 1520 tipped for November 25 UK launch

The Nokia Lumia 1520 may start shipping here in the UK on November 25, if one online retailer’s projections are to be believed.

Online phone retailer Unlock Mobile is listing the 6-inch Windows Phone 8 device as being available for pre-order, with the expected arrival date of November 25. Still, pinch of salt, and all that.

The price provided for the phone, incidentally, is £594.98. That might sound like a lot of money on the surface, but perhaps not so much when you consider the Lumia 1520’s prodigious specs.

It’s set to be the very first Windows Phone device with a 1080p display, for one thing. Up to now, Microsoft restrictions have enforced a 720p resolution for all Windows Phone 8 devices, which has left them trailing behind their Android rivals somewhat.

Another first for the platform will be the Nokia Lumia 1520’s quad-core processor - specifically a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800. Again, Windows Phone 8 has up to now supported only dual-core processors.

Elsewhere, the Nokia Lumia 1520 will sport a meaty 20-megapixel PureView camera, and integrated wireless charging will feed its 3,400mAh battery. It’ll be relatively slim for such a large device at 8.9mm thick, while it’ll weigh in at a slightly hefty 209g.

It’ll join a thriving 'phablet' market - that is, devices that are caught somewhere between a phone and a tablet in terms of screen size. The current phablet champ is the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which bears similar specs to the Nokia Lumia 1520.

In our initial hands-on with the device we reckoned that "in a market of super-sized, super-speced smartphones, the Nokia Lumia 1520 has brought the Finnish manufacturer back into the race."

Come November 25, we might have a better idea of whether it can win that race.

HTC One Max release date tipped for October 15

The HTC One Max release date could be just a matter of weeks away, with the oversized phone tipped to make an official arrival on October 15.

With a raft of HTC One Max leaks and rumours having done the rounds in recent weeks, new reports have claimed that the HTC One Max release date will be held on October 15, the same day that Apple is expected to formally unveils the new iPad and iPad mini 2 5.

Citing claimed "sources familiar with HTC's plans," latest reports have pointed to the October 15 handset reveal will precede an in-store One HTC Max release date later the same month.

With the HTC One Max having been the subject of many leaks, it is widely believed that the HTC One and HTC One Mini sibling will enter the realms of reality with a whopping 5.9-inch 1080 p Full HD display in tow, eclipsing even the new 5.7-inch Samsung Galaxy 3 Notes in terms of on-screen real estate.

A feature not seen on either of its One branded predecessors, the new reports have claimed that the HTC One Max will feature integrated microSD expansion, allowing users to further bolster the phone's relatively restrictive 16 GB of integrated storage. A number of HTC One Max rumours have also pegged the phone as packing an integrated fingerprint scanner similar to the iPhone 5S.

Elsewhere, the HTC One Max specs sheet looks set to be a family affair, with a quad-core Snapdragon processor 600 lining up alongside 2 GB of RAM, HTC's stereo speakers BoomSound and the same-4 Ultrapixel rar-mounted camera as the flagship phone.

To date that now promises a lot, the claimed October 15 HTC One release date has yet to be formally confirmed by the Taiwanese manufacturer. Similarly, Apple has yet to confirm plans for its own October 15 launch event.

Samsung Galaxy S5 tipped to launch in both Android and Tizen forms

Samsung Galaxy S5 rumors are heating up, with latest news, suggesting that the phone manufacturer's flagship Korean generation will be released in Android and flavored Tizen forms.

While the flagship Samsung smartphones, including the Samsung Galaxy S4 are all powered by Google's Android OS, it has been suggested that with the company working on your operating system, Samsung Galaxy Tizen S5 next year could be made available with two different operating systems.

A potentially risky move that could damage sales and kill the OS Tizen before its found its footing, a dual handset OS is only the latest in a growing line of items to Samsung Galaxy S5.

Although the claims of a powered Samsung Galaxy Tizen S5 are far from confirmed, Samsung co-CEO Boo-Keun Yoon recently suggested that the company would use its software Tizen to create uniform and connected experience among all Samsung products.

Samsung Galaxy S5 further entries highlighted in recent reports include the Android version of the laptop is powered by the Android 4.4 KitKat recently confirmed. Expected to launch in October alongside the Google Nexus Android take 5, KitKat, a series of updates to the dominant mobile OS.

With the Samsung Galaxy S4 having being criticized for its plastic form factor, it has been suggested that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be eligible for a new build of metal, similar to that of 5S of the iPhone or HTC One.

Elsewhere, the camera of the Samsung Galaxy S5 add optical image stabilization to an enlarged and more Megapixels sensor shooting as it looks to compete with improvements made by LG G2.
